Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is Health Canada distributing funds to the Métis National Council (MNC) for this project?

A: Funding for this project is derived from all First Ministers signing on to the 2004 Health Accord. This accord reflected that all signatories agreed that the heart of any health care system was based on providers who deliver that health care to the public. As such the federal government of Canada initiated a strategy for funding and evaluating projects that would increase the number, training levels, distribution and recruitment of those providers. The Métis Health and Human Resources Scholarship, Bursary and Training Program is an element of that objective.

Q: Is the Métis Scholarship, Bursary and Training Program a permanent academic awards program?

A: All Métis regional associations as well as Métis National Council would like that to be the case, but for the immediate future, MNC and Health Canada sign a yearly agreement for Health Canada’s contribution of funds to MNC for this program. Health Canada, to date, has agreed to do this until end of the fiscal year 2009-2010. Any extensions beyond this date will be determined with input from both Métis regional associations’ and Métis National Council’s continuously developing evaluation and reporting information to Health Canada.

Q: If I complete an application online, how can I be sure that my personal information will be handled in a confidential manner?

A: Métis Regional associations and Métis National Council websites include links to Privacy Statements that declare our position(s) regarding the management of sensitive and private information from applicants.

Q: What number do I call if I want to know about the status of my application?

A: All applications for scholarships, bursaries or training awards are submitted to and received by the Métis regional association that you are associated with. When you click on your regional identification logo to submit an application form, contact names or numbers will be made available to you at some point in the application process.
